Ukraine SSTS Joins ISOA at Reception
| By isoa_admin
Last week, ISOA was honored to welcome representatives from Ukraine’s Special State Transport Services at a reception hosted by member company MSA Security.
In an insightful presentation, Brigadier General Oleksandr Yakovets and other key representatives discussed a range of topics, including:
Mandate and Mission: In the face of a relentless and adaptive enemy, SSTS’s mandate is clear: to innovate and fortify. Over the past two years, with the unwavering and invaluable support of international partners, they’ve seized the opportunity to start using cutting-edge technologies and new weaponry. These advancements not only bolster SSTS defense but will help safeguard civilian lives, rebuild critical infrastructure, and enhance the quality of life for ordinary people.
Leveraging Information Technology: Strategic use of technology is pivotal. From deploying FTP drones for precision strikes to pioneering demining technologies tailored to Ukraine’s unique challenges, SSTS wants to be at the forefront of technological innovation. These efforts are crucial for demining and reconstruction.
Role in NATO Pledge: SSTS is committed to reforms to align with NATO’s vision, aiming for a balanced 30/70 military-civilian split. This transformation is already underway, with significant progress in fortifying our borders, a crucial aspect of our defense strategy, and implementing directives from our leadership.
Procurement and International Collaboration: The SSTS procurement process, overseen by the Ministry of Defense, is set to evolve with the establishment of a dedicated agency by mid-2025. The Ministry is committed to minimizing corruption risks and fostering international collaboration, ensuring that foreign companies engage local subcontractors. Post-victory reconstruction will heavily rely on international contracts.
Opportunities for Contractors: With new security agreements on the horizon, international contractors have a promising opportunity to establish supply chains and expedite equipment repairs. These agreements will open up new avenues for collaboration, and we encourage the involvement of international companies in reconstruction efforts, provided they adhere to stringent security measures.
Engagement and Transparency: Transparency is paramount. SSTS is implementing robust mechanisms to combat corruption and ensure accountability, including money laundering prevention and whistleblowing protocols. Their commitment to transparency extends to our collaboration with international agencies.
Demining and Reconstruction: The need for advanced demining equipment is critical, as traditional methods fall short. SSTS is actively seeking mechanical demining vehicles and funding for spare parts and new equipment to address this pressing issue.
Collaboration with ISOA and our Member Companies: SSTS looks forward to staying engaged with us, looking to our members to help them fortify and rebuild. Only through such collaborations they can overcome the challenges and pave the way for a brighter future.
